What materials do you accept for recycling?
#1 AND #2 PLASTICS
#1 and #2 plastics include most plastic containers used in our area. Water bottles and soft drink bottles will constitute the majority of #1 plastics used in Alabama households. For #2 plastics it is mostly milk jugs, large juice bottles and cleaning supply bottles.
Plastic items have a label stamped into them designating what type of plastic they are. #1 plastics are also called PETE, and #2 plastics are also referred to as HDPE.
The plastics that we will not be accepting during this “pilot program” phase include things like plastic bags (#4 plastic), to-go containers and storage totes (#5 plastic or PP), styrofoam, plexiglass and all the other plastic variants. We will expand our collections to include all plastics as soon as our volume has reached a level that will allow efficient processing of the less common and less voluminous types of plastic.
